Oracle has recently introduced a new feature called VCN QuickStart, which makes it easier to set up a VCN with all its default components (Internet Gateway, Subnet, Security List, etc)
This post covers all you need to know about the VCN Quickstart.

What is VCN QuickStart?
When you work with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), setting up a VCN for your cloud resources is usually one of the first things that you might be doing. However, configuring a VCN can be a bit involving when you think about all the sub-components that need attention such as subnets, route tables, gateways, security lists, etc.
Now, you can launch a VCN with connectivity to the internet and Oracle Services Network in just a couple of steps thanks to the new OCI Networking Quickstart wizard.
VCN QuickStart setup:
- Internet gateway, NAT gateway, and service gateway.
- Regional public subnet with routing to the internet gateway.
- Regional private subnet with routing to the NAT gateway and service gateway (and therefore the Oracle Services Network).
- Basic security list rules for the two subnets, including SSH access.
Where to Access VCN QuickStart Wizard?
There are two ways by which you can access the VCN Quickstart
Option 1:
- In the Console, click the Oracle Cloud icon at the top of the page to go to the Console home page. The page has a Quick Actions section to take you directly to common tasks.
- Click the quick action for Networking: Set up a network with a wizard.
- Select VCN with Internet Connectivity, and then click Start Workflow.
Option 2:
- Open the navigation menu. Under Core Infrastructure, go to Networking and click Virtual Cloud Networks.
- Click Networking Quickstart.
- Select VCN with Internet Connectivity, and then click Start Workflow.
